Garmin Fishfinder 140 Marine GPS
I LOVE my Garmin Fishfinder 140 Marine GPS. It’s my go-to tool in my weekly battle with all the crafty fish out there. Suffice it to say it’s the best fishfinder I’ve ever used.
When it comes to fishfinders, Garmin knows what the heck they’re talking about. If you only take one tool with you on your next fishing trip, make sure you have a Garmin Fishfinder 140 with you.
Using the Fishfinder 140 is very easy and convenient. Like other Garmin products, it was designed to minimize the number of keys and to streamline the operating process as much as possible.
You get a detailed high contrast reading that informs you of just the right spot where all those sneaky fish are hiding. The 4.7 inch grayscale display is bright and easy to read, featuring a 128 by 240 pixel resolution. The device uses Ultrascroll SONAR technology so the LCD screen is constantly being updated fast, and the AutoGain tech ensures you can see the maximum amount of fish.
The unit features 2 X or 4 X zoom levels in addition to a manual zoom setting, and the display automatically re-scales whenever the range is modified, eliminating any artifacts that can clutter your screen.
There are different audible alerts for various events, such as fish located, fish size, an water depth.
For you techies out there, the device uses a two-beam transducer with a narrow or wide angle (14 feet and 45 feet, respectively) as your needs require. Basically, what this means is that you get accurate readings both underneath your boat as well as the side areas. The high dynamic range receiver works well in depths as shallow as one foot to as deep as 600 feet. You can mount the transducer to your trolling motor with the included tilt and swivel mounting kit.
Regarding the power supply, the Fishfinder 140 uses battery power or an integrated power cable. A low battery indicator an warning alert lets you know when you’re running out of juice. Keep in mind an automatic power backup function saves all your settings even if the unit is suddenly shut off.
I’ve been really happy with my Garmin Fishfinder 140, and it really has helped me catch more fish. The price was right, too, and this unit is durably made — I suspect I’ll be using it for years to come.
